THE PRACTICAL GUIDE

Prepare before you apply.

The right documents, in the right order.

01

Start with the receiving authority

Get the current checklist from the programme, employer, consulate or regulator. Check whether it needs an original, a certified copy, a translation or a legalised document.

02

Keep your checks separate

A passport, degree, professional registration, criminal-record check and health assessment serve different purposes. A DBS certificate is not automatically interchangeable with every requested overseas police check or the International Child Protection Certificate.

03

Avoid ordering too early

Some checks have short validity periods. Confirm timing and processing requirements before spending money. Check whether electronic documents and e-Apostilles are accepted by the destination.

04

Read the entire offer

Confirm gross or net pay, guaranteed hours, preparation duties, accommodation, deductions, insurance, probation and termination terms. Ask which costs are paid upfront and which are reimbursed later.

05

Plan for the first payment

Keep enough cash for the documented or realistic delay before first pay. Include deposits, travel, documents and insurance. Programme reimbursement is not always available when you arrive.
